We received a note on Monday….Santa’s elves had all got a cold so work in the North Pole toy shop was coming to a halt! He needed our help to make toys to deliver in time for Christmas. We got to work at our very own woodwork station designing and making toys to help out the man in red. First, we talked about safety, when handling tools we need to stay safe and work with a grown up. We took on the role of Santa’s Little Helpers and were busy using hammers, nails and a drill! Moon class decided to make a train and Sun Class made a bus. Our final product was pretty fantastic and any child would be lucky to receive it this Christmas!
In maths, we have been learning the names of 3D shapes; cube, cuboid, sphere, cylinder, cone and pyramid. We have been wrapping and unwrapping 3D shaped presents as well as hunting for and sorting 3D shapes. Perhaps you could help wrap some presents this festive season and identify which 3D shape it is. Or you could go on your own 3D shape hunt around your house or the park.
We have been busy in phonics learning some new sounds including 2 digraphs;
y z zz qu
We used these sounds to make words:
yes, yet, yuck, yum, zebra, zip, zigzag, buzz, jazz, fizz, quick, quack
Simple sentences we have been reading and writing this week:
Zip it up.
He is fun.
Ducks can quack.
We have also learnt some new tricky words. Can you read them, write them and put them into a sentence?
she he we me be we
