Making a difference

21st January 2022

As we continue our ‘World of Ice’ topic, we have been taking part in some icy learning this week! We listened to the story ‘The Snowy Day’ by Ezra Jack Keats accompanied by some beatboxing! We used our mouths, lips and bodies to create our own beatboxing tunes! In the story, Peter, looks out of his window and see’s it has snowed outside! We have been talking about what we can see from our bedroom window and writing simple sentences e.g. I can see a tree. Have a look out your window this weekend and write a simple sentence to describe what you see. Perhaps you could look out of a bus or train window! What can you see? Write about it!

In maths, we have been learning about distance and using language such as near, far, nearest and furthest. We have been throwing snowballs as far as we can and measuring the distance using steps. We squirted colourful water and rolled cars along a number line to see how for it could travel. I wonder how far you can throw a ball in your garden or at the park? How could you measure the distance? Can you throw a ball further than your brother/sister? Whose ball travelled the furthest? Whose was the nearest?

Thank you to those parents who attended our Reading and Phonics workshop on 17th Jan. As a reminder, please ensure you are checking parent mail regularly for updates and key information regarding your children’s learning. The workshops and meetings we deliver are vital for your child’s development and success. We hope to see you all at any future meetings regarding your child’s education.

Please take care of the guided reading book given to your child. It is part of a set and it is vital it is looked after and cared for. Please leave the book in your child’s book bag every day so they can read it with their teacher in school as well as with you at home. You will receive a new reading book every Wednesday. Please read with your child as often as you can.

ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS ARE TO BE RETURNED EVERY MONDAY.

As promised at the workshop, we have attached the mnemonics we use to teach the children letter formation.
