Making a difference

25th February 2022

A new half term brings a new topic; Traditional Tales! This week we have been reading The Three Little Pigs. On Monday, our teachers performed the story for us! This West End worthy show supported us with our own retelling of the story. We have been busy being builders and architects, designing and building houses made of straw, sticks and bricks. The big bad wolf came along (in the form of Ms Hillis & Ms O’Sullivan’s hairdryer) but could not blow our houses down! I wonder if you could re-enact the story to your family this weekend, using the key vocabulary and phrases we have learnt this week such as: once upon a time, then, next, finally, the end.

In maths we have been beginning to add. We have been using the language ‘add’ and ‘equals’ and talking about how when we add, the numbers or the amount of objects we have get bigger. Using cubes, we have been working out all the different ways we can make 6 and 7.

Phonics

In phonics we have been reading and writing 2 syllable words. Syllables are how many units of sound are in a word. We explain this by clapping the beats in a word. We can split 2 syllable words into 2 sections to help us to read and write them:

Toothbrush    bedroom   airport   singer  batman  farmyard  lipstick  shampoo raindrop  carpark

All sounds learnt so far:

s a t p i n m d g o c ck e u r h b f ff l ll ss j v w x y z zz qu ch sh th ng ai ee igh oa oo ar or ur ow oi ear er air ure

Tricky words learnt so far:

I    no    go    into   the to  she     he    we     me     be     we are   was  you my

High frequency words of the week

her      now

Reminders:

  • Guided reading books are to be retuned every Monday. Your child will receive a new book on a Wednesday.
  • World book day is on Thursday 3rd March. Children are not to dress up this year but we have many exciting activities planned to ensure a wonderful day promoting reading!
  • On Thursday 10th March, Montell Dougals, an Olympic bobsleigh athlete, will be visiting Mora to run an athletic training session with the children. Children can wear their P.E. kit OR their own sports clothes for the event. We ask that each family kindly donates £1 per child for the event. Donations can be made through the crowdfunding page - https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/mora thank you.

Have a great weekend
