This week we have been reading the book ‘Compost Stew’. We have been creating a new recipe for compost using the alphabet and writing a list of ingredients. We have made our very own compost and written instructions all about how we made it. Here in Reception, we are scientists! We conducted an experiment about mold and have written some scientific predictions.
In maths this week, we are exploring tally charts. We are using this method to work out which eye colour and hair colour is the most and least popular in our class. We are using smarties to show how many of each colour is in a packet using a tally. Perhaps you could create a tally of likes and dislikes? How many people in your family like apples? How many prefer pears? Don’t forget to ‘close the gate’ when you get to 5!
We are learning phase 4 phonics. Phase 4 revisits and reviews all sounds taught so far as well as learning lots of new high frequency words and tricky words.
All sounds learnt:
s a t p i n m d g o c ck e u r h b f ff l ll ss j v w x y z zz qu ch sh th ng ai ee igh oa oo ar or ur ow oi ear er air ure
Tricky words learnt:
I no go into the to she he we me be we are was you my said so have like were little have like come some do what when out
This weekend, can you use colourful semantics to write a sentence? Look at a picture in a book. Think about ‘who is in the picture?’, ‘what are they doing?’ and ‘where are they?’. Use this, along with your phonic knowledge, to write a sentence e.g. The girl is riding a bike in the garden.
Reminders:
Thank you
Have a great half terms
