This title of our story this week is ‘Going to the Volcano’. We headed off with Jane on a journey looking for a volcano, walking down the lane-o, riding the Great Dane-o, jumping on the plane-o and flying off to Spain-o! We have been creating our own version of the story by adding ‘o’ to words e.g dogo, cato. We have been making volcanoes and writing danger signs as volcanoes are very dangerous and could erupt at any minute! Volcanoes are pretty interesting, ask us to tell you some facts about volcanoes.
In maths we have been finding one more than a given number. We are using objects, a number line, hundred squares and ten frames to help us find one more. Help me embed my knowledge by asking me at home e.g. “I have 5 raisins, “can you give me 1 more raisin please?”. How many do I have now?
In phonics, we have been revisiting and reviewing all sounds we have learnt so far as well as writing simple sentences using tricky words.

We have been talking about the rules we follow when we write a sentence. Every sentence we write starts with a capital letter, we use finger spaces between each word and we end our sentence with a full stop.
Simple sentences we have been reading and writing this week:
The cat is black.
The dog can run.
The sun is hot.
The man is sad.
Next week, Reception will be reading a book called the ‘Stickman’ so we are in need of lots of sticks. If you go on a winter walk this weekend or happen to have some sticks lying around in your garden, please collect them and bring them into school.
