Making a difference

5th November 2021

This week we have been reading ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas. The colour monster was feeling a bit confused and mixed up. With some help from a friend, he put his feelings into jars which helped him explain them. He chose a different colour to represent each one.

We made our very own feelings jars this week. We added water, oil, a dash of food colouring and a sprinkle of glitter. We dropped in an alka- seltzer tablet and watched it fizz!

Things got a bit funky when we took part in a pen disco! We played some music, talked about how the music made us feel and made marks to represent our feelings. We used our pens to make waves, spirals and loops. Pen disco is going to be a regular occurrence to help us develop our fine motor skills.

In maths we have been making marks to represent numerals. Numbers don’t have to just be numerals written down we can also show numbers through drawings and marks. We have been counting objects and making marks to show how many objects we have altogether.

In phonics, We have been revisiting and reviewing all the sounds we have learnt so far as well as beginning to read and write simple sentences.

Sounds we have learnt so far:

s  a  t  p  i  n  m  d  g  o  c  k  ck  e  u  r  h  b  f  ff

We have been talking about the rules we follow when we write a sentence. Every sentence we write starts with a capital letter, we use finger spaces between each word and we end our sentence with a full stop.

Simple sentences we have been reading and writing this week:

I can hop.

I can sit.

I can run.

The cat sat on the mat.

Below are the tricky words we have learnt so far. Tricky words are words we cannot sound out:

I    no    go    into   the  to

Thank you
