Research activity:
Comparing Fossils With Living Relatives
When palaeontologists compare fossils with animals from today, they can see similarities and identify relationships between them. Select a living plant or animal and research its fossil record. Draw a picture of the fossil, its name and a short description. Then compare the differences between the fossil and its living relative. The Natural History Museum has excellent online fossil resources, including an exhibition of fossils from Britain which traces the evolution of life from small and humble beginnings, through revolutions in shape, size and habitat: https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/exhibit/SALiA3f_-qylJA
