The science behind the experiment
As the mentos sinks in the bottle, the sweet causes the production of more and more carbon dioxide bubbles, and the rising bubbles react with carbon dioxide that is still dissolved in the soda to cause more carbon dioxide to be freed and create even more bubbles, resulting in the eruption.
Challenge: Can you create your own experiment to test this further? Think about what else you could test. Maybe you could try different kinds of drinks? Different kinds of sweets? Think about what you would like to test and write some instructions that explain how to conduct your experiment!
REMINDER: always ask a parent or carer before conducting an experiment at home!
