Mora Primary & Nursery School

Making a difference

Sun (Reception)

Welcome to our Class page.

Week beginning 2nd October 2023

We came into Mora eager and ready to learn. We have been embedding our new rules, routines and behaviours and have been extremely successful at it.

This week we were reading a book called ‘The Lion Inside’. We are learning to listen and respond to longer stories, talking about and retelling the stories in our own words.

In Maths, we learnt about size. We have been talking and comparing different sizes and ordering different objects correctly according to their size.

We have been busy in phonics learning our first set of sounds;

s  a  t  p  i  n

We used these sounds to make words:

sat, pin, sit, at, it, pat, pin, tap, tip, in

Have a go at reading and writing these words.

Reminders

All children need a spare bag of (old) clothes on their peg.

All children need a book bag so they can take a story book home to share with their family. Please bring story books back to school the following day so the children can take a new one home. Or you can keep the same book for a few days if you are really enjoying it!

Please make sure all uniform and clothing is labelled. Please be patient with us in locating the missing uniform. It is so important that you have written your child’s name on all items of clothing. It is quite difficult to locate uniforms when your child’s name is not on it.

Please talk to your child about what they have been learning about in school. The slideshow of pictures below could help spark an interesting conversation.

Week beginning 26th June 2023

This week, we have been learning some great vocabulary this week and some interesting facts about snails. Did you know, a snail is a gastropod mollusc! We read a book called Norman the slug with the silly shell’ by Sue Hendra. In this story, Norman, is a slug who wishes to be a snail-if only he had a shell! We have also been looking at the artist Matisse and his famous art work ‘The Snail’, as an inspiration to create our own Matisse style art.

In Maths, this week we explored even numbers. We are finding even numbers on a number line, in our environment and on a hundred square We also begin to count in twos. How clever we are!
